I’m super excited to have gotten all of these amazing books recently!!! Not that I need anymore on my TBR shelf, but omg they are so beautiful.
Most of these I got for Christmas, and a couple right after as part of a belated Christmas book buying excursion (with a certain fantastic guy). So, I am showing them off now! I suppose I can also add The Wicked King in here too, since that did arrive after the rest of these, but for some reason it didn’t make the picture. Just imagine it looking nice and daunting next to its series mate there.
This was such an exciting haul for me! Some of these books I have been wanting to get for a while now and just never pulled the trigger, others I did not know anything about. One I read already (The Cruel Prince), but I needed to own the physical copy for many reasons, not the least of which being that gorgeous cover!!
I have had my eye on The Bear and the Nightingale for ages now. I do not know a ton about it, other than it is set in Russia and presented as a sort of Russian folk tale retelling. I believe there is magic and history combined, so of course I was all about it from the moment I saw it. I found this pristine hardcover copy in the bargain bin at Books-a-Million! Uh hello, twist my arm.
I have also had Rough Animals on my wishlist for a while, too, ever since I started following the author Rae DelBianco on Instagram. She seems like the freaking coolest chick ever!! She has a gorgeous horse that she works cattle with, she has the same (heavy af) typewriter that I do, and her novel has been likened to Cormac McCarthy’s work. I. Am. Sold. And I will be reading this one very shortly.
I actually watched The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society on Netflix not too long ago. I had heard of the story, but really didn’t know what it was about. I was completely charmed by the story and instantly wanted to see if the book had more details, background information, or anecdotes than they were able to fit into the film. I am really excited to read and compare the novel to the movie. And I highly recommend the movie for anyone looking for a period piece, WWII era historical romance.
How come no one told me Chuck had a new book out!?! What?! It’s so pretty too! Well, as pretty as a book can be with pop-art colored severed ears adorning the cover. Hell yeah, I say. I actually know nothing about Adjustment Day, but I of course needed to get it. I think it is a play on the biblical concept of Judgement Day, but don’t hold me to that. I just know to expect classic Chuck shenanigans and deceptively self aware nonsense. Sign me the eff up!
Lastly, The Bhagavad Gita was recommended to me by the guy who so kindly bought me most of these books (thanks, babe 😘). I have always been fascinated with world religions and even took classes about it in college. However, I have never really read the actual sources before, other than a few snippets here or there. This one is relatively short and was talked way up as an epic and enlightening journey. I believe he said that some parts of it were “truly gangster.” Well, how the hell could I not get it after that glowing review???
Thank you all for getting excited about books with me!! What are you guys reading right now?
