“All right, M-Bot,” I said. “We have a problem. We might need to hijack that entire carrier ship.”
“Excellent,” M-Bot said. “Would you like your corpse cremated or ejected into space?”
I just couldn’t wait and picked up this sequel right after finishing Skyward! I was slightly hesitant going into the second novel, because I had heard some mixed reviews about it. And while it was not quite what I was expecting, it was still a great installment into the series. 4 stars!
“I smiled, then realized I was talking to a weird cave slug, which was a new low even for me.”
So excited to finally have read this! It definitely lived up to my expectations. 4.5 stars!! Brandon Sanderson is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors and I can’t wait to read the rest of his books.
“Don’t you see? Hope is a good thing—a wonderful thing—but you must have hope in something appropriate. If you perpetuate the dreams of the past, then you stifle your own dreams of the future.”
If I want to get picky, this was 4.25 stars! This series is so good; I just knew it would get better and better with each installment.
““He’s stuck out there. He thinks he’s totally alone and that we all gave up on him. What kind of effect does that have on a man’s psychology?” He turned back to Venkat. “I wonder what he’s thinking right now.”
LOG ENTRY: SOL 61 “How come Aquaman can control whales? They’re mammals! Makes no sense.””
Ok this book was so good! Why have I been sleeping on it this whole time?? For some reason I didn’t expect it to be as engaging and fast-paced as it was. I thought I’d like it, but not really like it. I’m glad I was wrong!
“I never wanted to be feared. If I regret one thing, it is the fear I have caused. Fear is the tool of tyrants. Unfortunately, when the fate of the world is in question, you use whatever tools are available.”
I cannot get over how beautiful the UK covers are for this series!!! SO much better than the US ones.
This was a great book and a fantastic start to a series! It was a little slow-going for me in the beginning and it took me a while to really connect with the characters, but once I did, I really loved it.
“People are much more dangerous than anything your mind can make up while you’re sleeping.”
“Like people you can’t trust?”
“Yes,” he answered and his voice was quieter. “They’re the most dangerous.”
“How can you tell who they are?” I asked.
“That’s easy,” he said, inhaling slowly from his cigarette. “They’re the people who are the hardest to stay away from.”
This was such a great book. For a debut author, this was an impressive and promising novel. I thought it was so well done and am excited to see what more the author comes up with!
“Yes, it certainly seemed like the human instinct, to get high on someone else, an external entity who could make life more exciting and relieve you of your own self, your own life, even just for a moment. Maybe once that person became too real, too familiar, they could no longer get you high – no longer be a drug – and that was why you grew tired of them.”
This book was so bizarre. For some reason, I have been drawn to the cover and the concept of it since it came out and when I heard that Whitney from WittyNovels on Youtube liked it, I decided to give it a try.
I actually really enjoyed a lot of what I read here (in a disturbing, introspective kind of way). The writing is fantastic, the story and the characters very unapologetic. And it is truly out there. I wanted to give it 4 stars for most of the book, but somewhere near the ending, I settled on 3.5 stars, overall.
“But at the end of the day,” she says, and puts her hand outside the open window, letting the wind pass through her fingers, “being myself is enough. I’m enough.”
Well well well, look who’s on a kick of fun and flirty lighthearted romance novels. It’s me. I’m on the kick.
“I like the idea of saving to buy a place of my own or having some extra in the bank for an adventure once I figure out what kind of adventure I want to have. I see all these choices unrolling in front of me – career, travel, friends, geography – and despite things being insane and hard and messy, I don’t think I’ve ever liked myself more than I do now. It’s the strangest feeling to be proud simply because I’m taking care of me and mine. Is this what it’s like to grow up?”
This book was a ton of fun. I am generally new to the whole romance genre, because they so often seem cringey and shallow to me, but damn it I was in the mood for a rom-com! (Yay for expanding our reading tastes and getting out of our comfort zones!!) I had been interested in trying out a Christina Lauren book for a while and I am really glad I did! I gave this one 3.5 stars.
“That’s not the way it works. You know that. Sins—crimes—are not supposed to go unpunished.”
I’m really glad I finally read this book! You know when a cover just sticks out to you and you can’t seem to help but get drawn to a book, because of it? That was Montana 1948 for me. I saw it so many times at thrift stores and finally picked it up, because I just love that cover! I am very happy I got to it quickly after that and I enjoyed the story. I ended up giving it 3 stars.
